Our Aims : |
- The encouragement of high
standards of architecture and town planning in Brechin.
- The stimulation of public
interest in the beauty, history and character of the area
- The preservation, development
and improvement of features of public amenity and historical
interest
- The implementation of these
ends by exhibitions, lectures, publications and other means.

Our Focus : |
In all aspects of our work we focus
efforts in the following key strategic areas :
- Involving people - The Brechin
Civic Trust will work to encourage more people to get involved
in promoting, protecting and enhancing their local built
environment.
- Promoting respect and
understanding - The Brechin Civic Trust will build in its
excellent track record of promoting the wider understanding and
appreciation of Scotland's built environment.
- Pursuing technical excellence -
The Brechin Civic Trust will strengthen its capacity to provide
professional support and advice on improving, protecting and
developing the built environment in Brechin.

Our Achievements : |
While we are
committed to saving old buildings of architectural and
historical interest, we also like to see ourselves as
forward-looking and ready to welcome bold new designs that will
enhance the character of Brechin. In recent years the Civic
Trust has been involved with various charity funding for work
within Brechin :

Developed
that part of the Nature Trail adjacent to Brechin High School
planting trees and providing benches.
-
Placed
commemorative plaques in various streets and closes within
Brechin.
-
Contributed
to the cost of providing the external illumination of Brechin
Cathedral.
-
Catalogued
the David Waterson Photographic Negatives and printed a
selection of images.
-
Organised an
art exhibition/ competition, ‘Townscapes of Brechin’, providing
£1,000 in prize money.
-
Produced
jigsaws of Brechin scenes.
-
Provided
financial support to:
- Mechanics’ Institute
- The Friends of Brechin Town
House Museum
- Brechin Christmas Lights
Committee
- Brechin Arts Festival
- The Watson-Watt Society of
Brechin

In
partnership with The Friends of Brechin Town House Museum,
produces The Brechin Lectures once or twice annually.

The Trust
organises an annual cheese and wine party donating the proceeds
equally between the Mechanics' Institute and The Friends of
Brechin Town House Museum.
-
The Trust
has been and remains an active member of the City of Brechin &
Area Partnership and supported its successful application for
funding through the Townscape Heritage Initiative for the
restoration of the Brechin conservation area.

The Trust was set up in 1972
following a public meeting organised by local G.P. the late Dr. Eric
Jenner. The Trust
seeks to stimulate interest in the beauty, built heritage and distinctive
history of the Brechin area.
It encourages the
preservation, development and improvement of the features of general
public amenity or historic interest. It encourages high standards of
architecture and town planning in Brechin.
