Brechin Townscape Heritage Initiative project :

Two talks will be held at the Old Registrar’s Office, starting at 5pm on Wednesday 3rd December.

The talks have been organised as part of the Brechin Townscape Heritage Initiative project, in conjunction with the Brechin Civic Trust and Friends of the Townhouse Museum.

Roger Curtis, of Historic Scotland, Technical Conservation Group will refer to the results from recent research into energy efficiency in traditional buildings and improving building performance. He will talk about the repair of traditional buildings including walls, roof, and windows and appropriate ways with which to repair them. This will include reference to ways in which to lessen heat loss from sash windows.

Professor John Palfreyman of the University of Abertay will be giving a talk on the ‘Environmental Control of Dry Rot’. Professor Palfreyman has undertaken extensive research on dry rot which has been used as a basis for a technical advice note available from Historic Scotland. Through an understanding of the dry rot organism practitioners and building managers can control and treat outbreaks by environment-friendly means at lower cost, with reduced intervention and use of chemicals, while at the same time conserving the fabric of both historic and contemporary buildings.

Both the above talks will appeal to owners and practitioners alike and anyone who is involved or interested in the repair and maintenance of traditional buildings. The talks will be free, and admission will be based on a first come first served basis. Doors will open at4.45pm. Please call Sarah Kettles, THI Project Manager on 01356 623488 for further details and to book at place.
